Dubrovnik Ruđer Bošković Airport has a couple of unique curiosities, archeological finds, and natural wonders.

Olive grove

In Dalmatia, there is a proverb "Olive—mother," as you need only a few trees to feed you and your family. This "Tree of Life" symbolizes the Mediterranean, so in 1962, we decorated the airport environment with a hundred trees maintained by airport employees. Last year, we produced around 400 liters of extra virgin olive oil, for which we received numerous awards.

"Kućerica"

At the entrance to the airport, you can see a small stone house. Built using the traditional method without concrete or other binding materials, the houses were used as shelter for shepherds in bad weather. Shepherds used to light fires to keep warm and prepare food on the floor in the middle of the house.

Art Installation "Water Polo Players"

On the occasion of the trophy-winning year 2016, in which Waterpolo Club Jug won a record five trophies and achieved sporting immortality, Dubrovnik Airport, as a proud sponsor of the club, decided to commemorate this success by setting up an art installation based on the idea of architect Lea Đurović Ruso. The art installation "Water Polo Players" is the work of Dubrovnik academic sculptor Iris Lobaš Kukavičić. The installation consists of seven figures levitating in the air of the terminal, exploring the movements of the human body in water and symbolically suggesting the game of water polo.

Park

In the summer, many guests wait for their flights, hiding from the heat in the natural, relaxing park near the airport building. The park's plantings and landscaping follow the Mediterranean theme. All the plants are autochthonous, and for our horticultural achievements, we won the 'Blue Flower' award.
