Dubrovnik Airport is set to introduce new scanners that allow passengers to keep liquids and electronic devices inside their cabin bags during security checks.

Dubrovnik Airport has begun introducing a new generation of technology for passenger and carry‑on baggage security screening. The new advanced C3 EDS CB screening technology provides a three‑dimensional view of baggage contents and enables a simpler and faster security screening process.

Dubrovnik Airport is currently the only airport in Croatia using this advanced technology. The upgrade includes six carry‑on baggage scanners and six passenger screening units. One scanner is already operational, while the remaining five will be installed by early December. Once fully deployed, the entire passenger and cabin baggage screening system will operate on next‑generation security equipment.

“By introducing this technology, we aim to further enhance aviation security and improve the overall passenger experience. The new devices provide higher‑quality baggage screening and simplify the process for passengers, who will no longer need to remove liquids or electronic devices from their carry‑on baggage. Together with the new passenger screening units, the entire procedure will be faster, more efficient, and require less physical contact,” said Viktor Šober, Director of Dubrovnik Airport.

Simplified passage through security screening

The new C3 EDS CB technology brings concrete improvements for passengers. With these scanners, there is no need to remove liquids, laptops, tablets, mobile phones, or other larger electronic devices from carry‑on baggage.

Unlike traditional X‑ray machines, C3 EDS CB devices produce a three‑dimensional image of baggage contents, enabling more accurate detection of prohibited items and reducing the need for manual checks. This shortens processing times and minimizes passenger delays.

The modernization also includes new full‑body scanners.During screening, passengers stand inside the unit for a few seconds while the system automatically flags any areas requiring additional inspection. Operators see a generic human outline with highlighted zones that may need further checking.

With the introduction of this technology, Dubrovnik Airport is aligning its security screening standards with those used at major European and global airports, offering faster processing, shorter queues, and less need for unpacking cabin baggage.
