Project description
The project acronym "Intermodal Passengers Connectivity between Ports and Airports" ("INTER-PASS") is implemented within the framework of the Interreg V-B Adriatic-Ionian Transnational Cooperation Programme 2014-2020. The European Regional Development Fund finances it under the European Territorial Cooperation objective, which supports regional cooperation between the countries of the Adriatic-Ionian region during the programming period 2014-2020.
The Managing Authority of the Cooperation Programme is the Emilia-Romagna Region, headquartered in Bologna, Italy.
The Ministry of Regional Development and European Union Funds is the national authority in the Republic of Croatia, coordinating the implementation of the programme with the other participating countries. The Croatian Regional Development Agency has been appointed as the Control Authority in the Republic of Croatia within the European Territorial Cooperation Programme framework.
The project will be implemented by eight project partners and one associated partner from Italy.
The project started in January 2018 and is expected to be completed by December 2019. The total approved budget of the project amounts to EUR 1,498,568, of which 85% is co-financed through the ERDF fund (European Fund for Regional Development).
In the Adriatic-Ionian region, there are many seaside towns that have to deal with a very large number of passengers during the high season and where cruise ship tourism is an important factor in regional and local development. However, many such "home ports" for cruise ships and ferries lack integration within various transport modalities, particularly with regional airports.
The overall goal of the "INTER-PASS" project is to strengthen intermodal connections between ports and airports in the Adriatic-Ionian region, in order to improve the flow of tourists, especially cruise ship tourists and passengers, arriving at destinations on the Adriatic and Ionian coasts during the high season.
The project will deliver 3 key results:
- Cooperation network for intermodal connection between ports and airports in the Adriatic-Ionian region. For partners and other interested parties, the network will be a starting point for exchanging knowledge related to innovative solutions (techniques, methods, operational principles, etc.) that can be easily adopted in the Adriatic-Ionian context.
- An action plan for each area, which will define the solutions that will be tested and implemented in the cities that are included in the project. Testing of 4 defined solutions, which will be implemented in Dubrovnik, Pula, Bari and Corfu during the summer of 2019, with the aim of significantly speeding up the flow of tourists between ports and airports.
- Elaboration of a joint integrated strategic plan for the intermodal transport of passengers between ports and airports, which would be shared with other ports and airports, as well as competent authorities, located in the Adriatic-Ionian region.
The initial meeting of the project partners was held in Dubrovnik on January 30 and 31, 2018, where the project partners met and discussed the project activities, schedule and expected results. 4 additional meetings and the holding of an international conference in Bari are planned.
We hope that the project will contribute to future cooperation between the involved project partner countries and to a better understanding of issues related to air traffic and maritime connectivity.
