The Level 2 - Reduction certificate confirms that the airport systematically monitors and reduces greenhouse gas emissions within its own operations (Scope 1 and 2), in line with international standards and ACA program guidelines.
The official certification was received in May 2025, reinforcing Ruđer Bošković Airport’s position among European airports that actively manage emissions and contribute to the global fight against climate change.
Dubrovnik Airport recorded total emissions of 2,040.7 tons of CO₂ equivalent in 2024, marking a reduction compared to previous years, especially when compared to the three-year average. Using the ACERT methodology, all emissions from stationary and mobile sources, as well as electricity consumption, were meticulously calculated.
The airport aims to achieve net zero emissions by 2042, which includes a 90% reduction in emissions per passenger compared to the baseline year of 2010. Several concrete measures are already in motion to reach this goal, such as transitioning to electric vehicles and equipment, implementing energy and environmental management systems, modernizing lighting, installing photovoltaic power plants, and upgrading cooling systems1.
This certification is an important milestone in Dubrovnik Airport’s journey toward carbon neutrality, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability and proactive emissions management.
Ruđer Bošković Airport has already initiated a series of concrete measures, including:
- Gradual replacement of internal combustion vehicles and equipment with electric alternatives
- Implementation of an energy management system according to ISO 50001 standards
- Implementation of an environmental management system according to ISO 14001 standards
- Modernisation of lighting systems (LED floodlights and control systems)
- Design and installation of photovoltaic power plants with a total capacity exceeding 4 MWp
- Energy renovation of existing buildings and replacement of cooling systems
Achieving ACA Level 2 is an important milestone on the airport’s path toward carbon neutrality. This certification confirms that emissions are systematically measured, analyzed, and reduced across all segments of operations.
Ruđer Bošković Airport remains committed to implementing concrete and measurable solutions to reduce its carbon footprint while actively contributing to the sustainable development of the region and the broader community. You can read more about this initiativehere.
